Light and Airy: Exo Terra’s Screen Terrarium Offers Superb Ventilation for Reptiles

November 8, 2010

MANSFIELD, Mass. Imagine relaxing on a screened-in porch on one of the lazy, hazy days of summer, enjoying the gentle breezes.  Reptiles and amphibians are no different than humans – they want to enjoy those summer breezes, too, and with Exo Terra’s Screen Terrarium, they can have their own herp version of a screened porch, but made just for their own comfort and security.

Traditional habitat enclosures are usually all glass, which is great for some reptiles and amphibians, but others may enjoy a more open habitat.  The Screen Terrarium has very fine black mesh screens on all four sides, allowing for maximum ventilation and excellent viewing, while a sliding front door allows easy access to the interior and a door lock keeps the inhabitants securely inside.  For times when access from above is preferred, the Screen Terrarium has a top screen that is easy to open, and locks securely.  The open-air design on the habitat also helps to minimize odors and control the growth of fungi, which can sometimes occur with closed glass habitats.  Additionally, the Screen Terrarium’s 3-inch waterproof base allows for water or moist substrate, making it ideal for desert-dwellers as well as rainforest-loving species.

Despite its complete open construction, maintaining air humidity within the Screen Terrarium is not difficult – regular misting, adding moistened substrate or an Exo Terra Waterfall with Fogger can be used.  Live plants or Exo Terra’s Jungle Plants may also be added, as well as an Exo Terra Background, which will help control misting water and keep it within the habitat.

The Exo Terra Screen Terrarium is compatible with other Exo Terra reptile and amphibian habitat products, such as the Terrarium Stands, Compact Tops, Digital Thermometers and Hygrometers, all of which are sold separately.

Available in four sizes – 18” x 18” x 18” (45 x 45 x 45 cm), 18” x 18” x 24” (45 x 45 x 60 cm), 24” x 18” x 18” (60 x 45 x 45 cm) and 24” x 18” x 24” (60 x 45 x 60 cm) – the Exo Terra Screen Terrarium can accommodate most types and sizes of reptiles and amphibians, including chameleons and arboreal species. MSRP is approximately $109.99 to $139.99.
