Cardinal Pet Care Hires Deborah Pierce as Director of Research and Development

AZUSA, Calif. In recent years, Cardinal Pet Care has taken great strides to become a world-class pet care company.  It has built a sprawling new state-of-the-art manufacturing and warehouse facility, it’s become one of the first solar-powered companies in the pet care industry, and it has expanded its Pet Botanics brand to include Omega Treats, Training Rewards, Meatrolls and new Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food.

Now, the company is expanding its human capital by adding new members to its management and product development team that bring an unprecedented level of talent, experience and passion for excellence to the Azusa-based company.  Deborah Pierce, Cardinal’s new Director of Research and Development, is a prime example of this commitment to building a collective bank of experts that will help drive the future course of the company, and the pet products industry.

The current Area III National Director for the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, Pierce is a versatile and talented chemist and lawyer with a keen understanding for creating new and innovative products.  She has many years of experience in cosmetic chemistry, working in positions at all corporate levels, and holds three patents – for non-VOC hairspray; Hempquat, a substantive cosmetic raw material; and fruit and vegetable cleaning compound.

Pierce comes to Cardinal from Active Organics, a leading manufacturer of specialty cosmetic ingredients and botanical extracts based in Dallas, Texas.  As the Director of Technical Innovation, she implemented development projects into research and development, including the creation of exemplars to showcase the company’s ingredient technology.  Pierce was also a Technical Consultant and Manager at Cosmedx Science in Corona, California, where she was responsible for all aspects of the Research/QA/Regulatory department, and also overseeing compounding and filling manufacturing.

“Deborah is someone with a deep commitment to her profession, and she has a tremendous amount of skill to go with it,” said Tony de Vos, president of Cardinal Pet Care.  “Her competitive nature and dedication to developing new products will be a vital element as we move forward into this new era of Cardinal Pet Care.  Her extensive skills and experience as a personal care formulator make her a wonderful addition to our pet care products team.”

Pierce’s entire body of work shows her genuine passion for developing personal care products, going back to the beginning of her career as a Chemist at Vidal Sassoon, where she formulated hair care products for the company.  Other positions include Western Regional Account Sales Manager at Cognis Care Chemicals, Chief Chemist at New Sunshine – Australian Gold/California Tan, Sr. Sales Engineer at International Specialty Products, Director of Research at Bocchi Laboratories, Hair Care Laboratory Manager at Redken, Inc. and Director of Research at Iodent.  She was also the president of Raves Consulting, a personal care product development consulting company that she founded.

Pierce holds a Juris Doctor Degree in Law from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California.  She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychobiology and a minor in Mathematics from the University of California at Los Angeles, and an Associate of Arts degree in Biology from El Camino Junior College in Torrance, California.

In addition to her association with the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, Pierce is a member of the New York Academy of Science and the American Chemical Society, and a past member of the CTFA Sunscreen Committee.  She is a past instructor of Cosmetic Chemistry at UCLA and lectured at the Women in Flavors and Fragrances Symposium on the benefits of hydrolyzed hemp as a cosmetic ingredient.

A division of Azusa, California-based Cardinal Laboratories, Inc., Cardinal Pet Care’s manufacturing and distribution center is a solar powered facility.  The 63-year-old pet product company is a pioneer in green technology, being the first privately held company in the pet industry – and in its city – to manufacture products using solar energy.  Cardinal products, including new Furrever Devoted dog shampoos and conditioners and Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food, are available at pet retailers nationwide.  For more information, contact Cardinal Pet Care at 800-433-7387 or visit www.cardinalpet.com.
