Cardinal Pet Care Hires James DeHart as Director of Plant Management

AZUSA, CA – (For Immediate Release) – As a company, Cardinal Pet Care is on its way to becoming a world-class manufacturer of pet care products.  Its new, sprawling, state-of-the-art plant, office and warehouse is one of the first solar-powered facilities in the pet care industry and is testament to Cardinal’s corporate commitment to pets, people and the planet.  The impressive growth of the company’s Pet Botanics products like Omega Treats, along with the enthusiastic reception given to its new Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food, shows that the Cardinal has a sensitive finger on the pulse of the market.

Now Cardinal is expanding its human capital to build upon its successful track record. The company has been reinvigorating its management team by adding new members that exhibit an unprecedented level of experience, talent and passion for excellence.  This dedication to hiring the best and the brightest in their fields is clearly reflected in the company’s new Director of Plant Management, James DeHart, who is the latest addition to an outstanding team.

With extensive knowledge of QS900, TS16949, ISO14000, DeHart is a Green Belt in Six Sigma, a management philosophy developed by Motorola that emphasizes setting extremely high objectives, collecting data, and analyzing results in an effort to reduce defects in products and services.  He is also compliant with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) requirements, a quality system set by the Food and Drug Administration for FDA-regulated products, such as food, drugs, biologics and devices that ensures safety, pureness and effectiveness.  DeHart has many years of experience as a manufacturing professional, having held positions as a plant engineering manager, plant manager and director of manufacturing, both domestically and internationally, and is known for his ability to complete major projects on time and on budget.

DeHart comes to Cardinal from Physician’s Formula Cosmetics, a leading manufacturer of high-quality, hypoallergenic cosmetic and skin care products, where he was the Director of Manufacturing.  In this position, he had multi-site responsibility for all manufacturing activities, including production, engineering, safety, warehousing and maintenance.  Additionally, DeHart was a key member of the Ecocert organic certification and FDA compliance teams and created and executed the capital budget plan.  Prior to his position with Physician’s Formula, he was the Director of Engineering Services for Outsourcing Services Group, Inc. in Industry, California, where he had multi-site responsibility for capital projects involving automation, product quality and cGMP compliance.  His main focus was on liquid and aerosol products such as shampoos, conditioners and hairspray.

“James has distinguished himself as a meticulous and conscientious leader regarding quality control standards essential to operations,” said Tony deVos, president of Cardinal Pet Care.  “His experience, skill and commitment will play a major role in assuring that Cardinal’s high quality standards are met — and even exceeded –as we gear up production to meet the ever-increasing demand for our products.”

DeHart’s entire career shows his dedication and passion for his field, which includes a two-year assignment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as Asian Project Manager for Dexter Electronic Materials.  He held several other positions at Dexter, beginning as a Quality Control Laboratory Technician in Olean, New York and working his way up to Plant Manager in Industry, California, before moving on to the position at Outsourcing Services Group.

DeHart received his Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Management from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan.  He also graduated with honors from California State University in Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology and received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, New York.

In addition to his Six Sigma Green Belt and ISO certifications, DeHart has taken several training courses, including Henkel’s “Basics in International Brand Management” course at Cranfield University School of Management, FMEA, PPAP and APQP, 8D Problem Solving and Design for Manufacturability.  He also completed the Hartford Graduate Center’s Dexter “U” management development program and passed his EIT exam for Professional Engineers.

A division of Azusa, California-based Cardinal Laboratories, Inc., Cardinal Pet Care’s manufacturing and distribution center is a solar powered facility.  The 63-year-old pet product company is a pioneer in green technology, being the first privately held company in the pet industry – and in its city – to manufacture products using solar energy.  Cardinal products, including new Furrever Devoted dog shampoos and conditioners and Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food, are available at pet retailers nationwide.  For more information, contact Cardinal Pet Care at 800-433-7387 or visit www.cardinalpet.com.
