Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food’s Earth-Friendly Compostable Bags are a Hit with Consumers

March 26, 2012

The bag for Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food is made from biodegradable and compostable corn-based Earth First PLA film.

AZUSA, CA – (For Immediate Release) – Cardinal Pet Care is more than a company with innovative pet products; it also has some innovative and earth-friendly packaging ideas. In keeping with the company’s commitment to being “devoted to pets, people and the planet,” Cardinal has packaged its Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food in completely compostable and biodegradable packaging.

Dogs love the taste, aroma and texture of the new Pet Botanics food. Dog lovers appreciate its many healthy benefits, like its natural grain free formula and added Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. And everyone will benefit from the foods new packaging.

Made from renewable plant sources like corn, sugar beets, sugar cane and switchgrass, the natural bags break down entirely when composted.  Since being introduced to the market last summer, the bags have earned widespread praise from consumers who want something good for their planet as well as their pets.

Despite their obvious biodegradability, the bags are just as durable as those made with petroleum-based products and create an excellent barrier that helps retain the freshness of Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet dry dog food for a longer period of time.

An added environmental benefit comes from the fact that Pet Botanics uses water-based inks on its dog food bags.  Water-based inks are cleaner and easier to work with than standard inks, and they respond better to the de-inking process at recycling facilities than do solvent-based inks.

The earth friendly bags are part of the commitment made by Cardinal Pet Care to be devoted to pets, people and the planet. In 2009, the company began switching its Azusa-based production facility, warehouse and office to solar power – and it is now completely off the power grid.

Cardinal Pet Care’s goal is to leave no carbon footprint behind.  The 60-year-old company replaced a variety of power-drawing fixtures with energy-efficient alternatives.  It also replaced the building’s skylights with prismatic units, added sensors that turn off lights when an area is vacated, and installed a “white roof” with 320 American-made solar panels covering 5,440 square feet of roof space.  These changes have reduced the energy load so significantly that Cardinal was able to install air conditioning in the factory and actually gives power back to the city of Azusa.

Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Gourmet Dog Food is available in three flavors – Salmon, Chicken and Lamb.  For more information, contact Cardinal Laboratories at 800-433-7387 or visit www.cardinalpet.com.
