Exo Terra’s New 12” High Natural Terrariums are Ideal for Desert-Dwelling Species

Exo Terra's 12" High Natural Terrariums have all the features of their taller cousins, but at a height ideal for desert-dwelling species.

MANSFIELD, Mass., April 9, 2012 (For Immediate Release) – Designed by European herpetologists, Exo Terra’s Natural Terrariums have been popular with reptile and amphibian enthusiasts for years because of the many features they offer, from safety to maintenance, along with a wide variety of sizes that accommodate nearly every animal.  The product line is expanding with the addition of three new sizes of Natural Terrariums that have a lower, 12” height designed to be more beneficial to desert-dwelling reptile species.

When designing the new terrarium sizes, Exo Terra’s European herpetologists took the existing 18” depth footprint of its popular small, medium and large Natural Terrariums and designed the new sizes to be just 12” high, a height that is of particular benefit to desert-dwelling reptile species, as this puts the ultraviolet and heat bulbs even closer to the animals.  This is important since many desert species require more UVB rays and heat than other reptile species, and with the bulbs closer to them, they can better absorb these substances.

The all-glass, 12” high terrariums are still very much an Exo Terra product, and have all the features of their taller cousins, including the locking, swing-out front door that prevents escapes while allowing easy access for maintenance and feeding.  The innovative front window ventilation system works in tandem with the stainless steel mesh cover to provide optimal air circulation, which also helps to keep the front glass free from moisture condensation.  The extra-high fixed front window at the base of the terrarium is waterproof, making it ideal for thick layers of substrates used by burrowing reptiles, aquatic substrates for amphibians, or for the mounting of an Exo Terra reptile den, and the raised bottom plate allows for easy installation of an Exo Terra Heat Wave substrate heater.  In addition to being a key part of the terrarium’s ventilation system, the mesh cover at the top of the terrarium also allows for UVB and infrared penetration and is easily removable for decorating and cleaning.

Fully customizable, the 12” high Natural Terrariums are compatible with all Exo Terra terrarium accessories, including the Hygrometer, Thermometer and Combometer, as well as Exo Terra’s Terrarium Lock, which prevents unauthorized access.  Most Exo Terra terrarium decorations, including Plants, Jungle Vines, Hide-Outs, Waterfalls, Substrates, Feeders and Waterers, can be used with the low Natural Terrariums.

The three sizes of Exo Terra’s 12” high Natural Terrariums are:  18” x 18” x 12”, 24” x 18” x 12” and 36” x 18” x 12.”  They have MSRP’s of $124.99, $159.99 and $244.99, respectively and are available online and at pet retailers nationwide.  For more information, visit or call 1-800-225-2700.
