AZUSA, CA — (For Immediate Release) — Cardinal Laboratories, a manufacturer of pet products, has been voted the Best Green Company to Work For in the San Gabriel Valley by readers of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Pasadena Star News and Whittier Daily News. The company also took the “Favorite” spot for Best Overall Company To Work For.

In the poll, readers were asked to cast their votes for “Best Company To Work For” on a simple form that allowed them to write in any local business’s name.  More than 2000 unique submissions were received, with Cardinal receiving the most votes in the “Green Company” category.

During the presentation of the plaques by representatives of San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Cardinal Laboratories President and CEO Tony de Vos gave insight into why Cardinal won the award, when he was asked what he attributed the popularity of his company to.  “Probably the 2,500 votes I sent in!” quipped de Vos, causing a roar of laughter among everyone in attendance.  “No wonder your employees like working here so much,” said one of the Tribune representatives.

In a more serious vein, de Vos said that Cardinal was particularly proud to have received the award.  “I have a lot of longtime employees.  Most have been here over 20 years now.  You spend a lot of your life where you work, so you’d better enjoy your job.”
The Azusa, California company — which manufactures the dog care product lines Pet Botanics, Viva La Dog Spa, Crazy Pet, Remedy+Recovery, and more – is generally regarded as a pioneer in green manufacturing in the pet industry. Back in 2009, the company installed solar paneling throughout its offices and warehouse to run air conditioning powered completely by the sun. Cardinal also replaced skylights with prismatic units that diffuse natural sunlight, and added sensors to turn on lights when rooms were occupied and then off when vacated.

“Luckily when we ‘went green,’ the upgrades in equipment and savings in electricity meant we could have an air-conditioned factory and pet food distribution center,” said de Vos. “It makes it a more comfortable environment for the employees.   I think that’s one of the things they appreciate.  Kindness and knowing your employees always helps too.”
