Cardinal Laboratories Voted “Best Green Company To Work For” Second Year In A Row

November 6, 2015

AZUSA, CA – (For Immediate Release) – For the second straight year, Cardinal Laboratories, a manufacturer of pet products, has been voted the Best Green Company To Work For in a poll conducted by the Los Angeles News Group. The poll, called Winning Workplaces, asked newspaper readers to vote for the best local companies to work for in the San Gabriel Valley, and Cardinal once again captured the most nods in the “Green Company” category.

“This award is truly an honor because it is bestowed on us by our own employees,” said Tony de Vos, president and CEO of Cardinal Laboratories, which markets its products under a variety of brands, including Pet Botanics, Crazy Pet, Furrever Devoted, Remedy + Recovery and Viva La Dog Spa.   “To be voted ‘Best Green Company To Work For’ two years in a row shows we are doing a good job taking care of our people and creating a fun and happy workplace environment,” de Vos added. “This is something we are very proud of because our employees are like family to us – most have been here over 20 years.”

Another thing Cardinal takes great pride in is reflected in the “Green” part of the award. The company, which makes pet food, treats, shampoos and health products, has as its stated mission “to be planet-friendly while providing eco-friendly pet products that improve life for people and their pets.” In 2009, Cardinal took a major step toward achieving this goal, when it switched to 100% solar power in its Azusa manufacturing and warehouse facilities. The company also implemented other eco-friendly measures, including installing more energy efficient equipment and adding sensors to turn lights on and off automatically when rooms are occupied and vacated. These steps earned Cardinal the reputation of being a pioneer in green manufacturing in the pet industry.

As a result of being off the power grid, Cardinal also realized a big savings in electricity costs, which allowed the company to install air conditioning in its factory and distribution center – also powered by the sun!   Having an air-conditioned factory is unusual in California so it “makes it a more comfortable environment for our employees,” noted de Vos, “and I think that’s one of the things they appreciate.”

At the end of the day, it’s having pride in your company and what it contributes to society that gets the most credit for capturing the Winning Workplaces award two years in a row, believes Barbara Denzer, the company’s vice president of marketing. “Our company is ‘Devoted to Pets, People & the Planet,’ and it’s rewarding to know that the owner carries this out in our workplace and supports us and challenges us to live up to it too.”

Hagen Fetes Pet Retailers At 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration And Canadian National Trade Show

November 6, 2015

OTTAWA, Ontario– (For Immediate Release) — More than 50 American pet retailers — and many more from Canada and around the world – gathered for two days in late summer in the picturesque town of Gatineau, Quebec to enjoy a special kind of holiday. This exclusive mini-vacation treated guests to fine food, drinks and a breathtaking venue at the Hilton Lac Leamy located on the scenic shores of Leamy Lake. These retailers were the lucky attendees of the Rolf C. Hagen (USA) Corp.’s Canadian National Trade Show and 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Celebration!

The company gifted this luxurious two-day, fun-filled retreat to pet retailers across Canada, the US and 23 other countries who won Hagen’s Diamond Jubilee Contest held earlier this year.

At Hagen’s Canadian Trade Show, dealers were introduced to new products from All For Paws, ZEUS, New Tropican and TropiMix, FLUVAL LED and prototype 60 years Logo Bilingual with HagenEDGE tanks, to name a few! One of the most talked about products came from Nutrience Sub Zero (a brand not yet available in the US), a 100% grain free dog food with the addition of raw protein for superior nutrition and a flavor canines crave.

Dealers also attended seminars with helpful topics to go along with Hagen’s new products on Bird Care, Aquatics, Reptile Care and more. A special seminar on the new Hagen Dealer Portal hosted a full audience – It introduced the online portal which allows retailers to view specials, new items, place orders and see order history to name a few.

The Trade Show took place just a few minutes outside of Ottawa, so many American dealers also enjoyed an afternoon touring Canada’s capital city. The city holds many historic sites, like the Rideau Canal and Ottawa Locks, the National Gallery of Canada and the Peace Tower.

Later that day nearly 1000 guests were treated to a Gala Dinner – greeted upon entry by an ice statue in the shape of the number 60 (for Hagen’s 60th anniversary). The night of celebration included a great meal and an open bar along with beautiful sea-side views. The evening culminated with a banquet and a speech From the President and CEO Rolf Hagen Jr., including a tribute video to the late Chairman Rolf C Hagen that ended with a standing ovation from the entire room.

Rolf Hagen Jr. thanked the attendees for their 60 years of support. “Our Diamond Jubilee was a stunning success,” Hagen said. “Our guests traveled from near and very far away. It was an honor to celebrate such an important benchmark with friends and colleagues who have supported our business, getting us to where we are today.”

Best Foot Forward! Crazy Dog Introduces Walkies Fit Bites – The First Dog Treat To Celebrate And Support Canine Fitness

August 24, 2015

AZUSA, Calif. – Crazy Dogwalkiesssss, a brand of Cardinal Pet Care, is introducing an all-new category of dog treats. Walkies Fit Bites truly break the mold as a new “active lifestyle” treat.

Shaped Like A Foot

Uniquely aimed at keeping dogs fit and active (with ingredients that benefit heart health and movement), Walkies are appropriately shaped like a foot. They not only offer benefits to support a healthy heart and joints, they also celebrate the importance of walking and the essential benefits dogs – and their owners –receive from it.

Large Category Of Dog Walkers

Why a treat that focuses on walking and fitness? For one, research shows that 73% of all dog parents walk their pets, and that this percentage is growing particularly fast in urban areas. With 40% of U.S. dogs overweight, it’s no wonder that more owners are turning to walking to help trim Fido’s waist line. Yet until now there has never been a treat that supports this large category of dog walkers.

Secondly, recent research reveals just how essential daily walks are for dogs. Walking has been shown to have benefits not only on canine health, but also on reducing stress, promoting good behavior, and strengthening dogs’ bond with their human counterparts. Of course, there are many physical health benefits too, such as weight management, better digestion and strong immune systems.

Walkies’ Formula For Active Lifestyle

Walkies Fit Bites are the first dog treats with ingredients that help keep dogs moving and fit. Taurine, an essential amino acid, is added to promote heart health. Chicken cartilage is added as a natural source of Glucosamine & Chondroitin Sulfate, which support mobility by helping repair cartilage and tissue in joints. L-carnitine, a proven fat burner, is also included to help with canine weight control and to preserve lean muscle.

Tempting Flavors, Thematic Packaging

New Walkies Fit Bites are being introduced in 3 tempting flavors: Bacon, Beef and Chicken. The packaging comes in an appropriately friendly teal-blue color.

A charming, foot-shaped window on the front gives a clear view of the treats inside, which are also foot-shaped to celebrate the importance of staying active. Each variety includes a color-coded bar that corresponds to the type of treat – red for bacon, purple for beef and blue for chicken.
